I was privileged to be invited back to speak to the Bewdley Stroke group at one of there weekly meetings.
I last spoke to the group about the role of the podiatrist and management of foot and leg problems. Some of the pictures at the last visit were not to everyone's taste, but they did a great job of showing the diverse conditions podiatrists manage.
At this visit I decided to focus upon the musculoskeletal and biomechanics side of our role, especially given the effects that a stroke can have upon gait, balance and foot function.
With some willing volunteers, I was able to talk though a biomechanical assessment in the clinic, displaying some of the ways we test and assess for pathology. We also talked about the different ways in which these problems can be managed, inducing orthoses, stretching, strengthening and joint mobilisation.
It was a superb afternoon and I am grateful to the group for letting me have the time to talk to them.
If you have a group who would like a talk on podiatry, then please get in touch via the contact form or call 077 666 888 29.
